March 5Mar 5 Recently I've seen a lot of hate toward Bungie's new extraction shooter Marathon. While some of the complaints are valid, (such as complicated UI or a surprising lack of pvp) I have also seen some unwarranted complaints just hating on its art style. This was really confusing to me and I'm sure a lot of others as well because on first look the game looked stunning. The game blends the synthetic looking future with a planet overrun by flora and fauna. Even the 3-D printer like Sekiguchi silk worms are just reinforce this sick concept. So why is there so much hate? This art style is not even new by the way, I've seen it before in mecha animes, games like Apex, the Cycle: Frontier, and the Finals... but Marathon is where the line is drawn? Am I just consuming the wrong media, have you noticed similar hate? Or is this just a rite of passage for up and coming games where there's already a leader in the genre (Arc Raiders/ Tarkov for instance)?
