  1. The Silver Warrior! Also the Buck Rodger’s covers he did for Famous Funnies.
  2. The Jim Starlin Captain Marvel and Warlock series.
  3. JLA is something that I will usually pick up. Golden Age heroes are my soft spot. Batman is usually my pick up too. Batman usually has a very strong writer along with a strong artist. Really the only Batman artist that I just couldn’t stand was Frank Robbins. I remember picking up a Detective comics with Neal Adams and a Batman comic with Frank Robins in the same month and thinking to myself WTF is this?
  4. I have to agree that Batman has the best rogues gallery. As a matter of fact, Donald Trumps entire cabinet looks and acts like villains from Batman. Steven Miller is the Scarecrow.
  5. Usually I pick up cover A unless a variant cover is done by Jim Lee, Frank Miller and such. The A covers have been very bold looking for the past couple of years.
  6. Interesting style of art. I wish you success in your career.
  7. I agree that The Spirit would be the # 1 choice. Nice to see Kick-Ass made the cut but Hit Girl should’ve been included too. She is such a great character! I’m not saying that anyone should be removed from the list but include Hit girl.
  8. Easter Eggs in comics have been around for a long time. Interesting point about Jonn Brooke working with Fawcett when they were sued by DC.

As someone pushing 120 years old (humor) has anyone else smoked pot and read any Jim Starlin Captain Marvel comics? In my opinion that was the only way to read his stories.
  10. Interesting question! I’ve never really thought about how I like to read a comic. Never read a digital comic before. Being married with kids, it’s hard to find the time as I might have a few comics pile up and it might take a month or so to get to them. Having a Man Cave helps.

In the current JLA run the Specter is prominently featured. Has anyone ever read the Adventure Comics starting with # 431 during the 70’s which featured the Specter? Written by Michael Fleicher and art by Jim Aparo. To me it was like EC Comics had a superhero. I was expecting the Crypt Keeper to be at the end of the story.

    I can live with that.
  13. That would be a true test of one’s ethics. It might even be a job for Superman!
  14. Hi there, Regarding your article a the 10 best DC heroes ranked, you said that Wonder Woman’s first appearance was in Sensation # 1. I’m pretty sure that Wonder Woman’s first appearance is in All Star # 8. I could be mistaken but I don’t think so. Love your forum btw.
  15. Around 1976 I worked at a Comic Book store in the Olde Towne Mall in Torrance, Ca. We were the busiest store in the mall. It was called the Comic Vendor, owned by Nick Scotto. I was going to college at the time and the mall hours worked out well for me. A few comic professionals would make their way to the store and introduced themselves. I started collecting golden age comics because they were right there in stock. At that time we were ordering around 1,000 copies of X-Men and Spider-man each month.
  16. You do make a good point regarding Batman’s Rogues Gallery. His popularity is second to none. Go to any retail store, Walmart, Hobby Lobby etc and there is a lot of licensed merchandise. Batman outsells the competition, unless there is some anime that outsells him in other parts of the world? Yeah his Rogues Gallery sells well too.
  17. In my humble opinion, I agree with you that Superman is/was the best anatomically correct character specifically when Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson teamed up starting with Superman #233.

Regarding the article about non Batman covers by Neal Adams, check out the cover of House of Mystery #251. Adams would occasionally try to slip something naughty past the infamous Comics Code Authority. Way back when the Overstreet Price Guide referred to the issue as a “Rude” cover. Let me know if you see it please.
  19. As a long time Legion fan, never read the Bendis storyline. I had a complete collection of the legion in Adventure comics and Superboy. I would love to see them rebooted.

I have a question about the way comics are made these days. When I first started collecting, the comics were 12 cents and had a lot of ads. From what I can see, the only ads are company related like from Warner Brothers. Anyone know when and why this happened? Not complaining, just asking. At $5.00 apiece I can’t collect like I used to.

Yes, the recent JSA stories regarding “Year One” are great. Fascism during WWII was a very scary time for the world.

Please forgive my ignorance regarding this forum. I never join in as I feel like some sort of dinosaur as I am 70 years old and started collecting comics in 1965. I agree with the Silver Surfer vote and feel that the FF # 48,49 & 50 along with the 18 issue series were great. These days I really enjoy the JSA series with super heroes in the 1940’s. I used to have many of the original All Star comics. Made a lot of money on them too. The nostalgia of the JSA is appealing to me. The Marvel \ DC crossovers are well written and illustrated.
