October 22, 2025Oct 22 More of a generic Trek ... thought, but is anyone else of the opinion that crossbreeds or hybrids should be a rarity in Trek?I feel characters like Spock, Ziyal, B'Elanna etc would've been far more unique if they were a fluke, in that crossbreeding should be a rarity or a genetic anomaly rather than mere chance or intervention. This stems from the hybrids that we're scheduled to meet in the academy show; if hybrids are a common occurrence then the specific traits of the individual species are (I feel) more lost on us.I know (per TNG The Chase) we're all arguably distant cousins anyway, but it's not like we're talking across continents here; we're talking across space. There's some hybrids that just wouldn't happen for more obvious reasons (Gorn-Human, Tholian-Klingon, Voth-Vulcan), so how frequently should a red blooded Human be able to conceive with a green blooded Vulcan?Would people prefer to see less hybrids, or more?
