June 12Jun 12 Hey everyone,With the massive news dropping today from The Information that Microsoft has internally discussed restructuring Xbox as a wholly owned subsidiary (kind of like LinkedIn) to potentially pave the way for an outside partner or an outright sale, my mind is completely blown.I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out: What if SEGA bought Xbox? Think about how incredibly poetic that would be. Back in the early 2000s, the original Xbox was basically the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast, and we know from those old FTC court documents that Phil Spencer literally tried to buy SEGA a few years ago.How wild would it be if the tables turned and SEGA’s parent company swooped in to save the hardware brand? Imagine a modern console line completely integrated with SEGA’s legacy, Atlus RPGs, and the massive catalog Xbox just acquired.Obviously, SEGA probably doesn't have $150+ billion just lying around to buy out the entire brand, but a guy can dream. Imagine turning on the next console and hearing "SEEEEEEE-GAAAAAA" at the boot-up screen. What do you guys think? If Microsoft actually sells, who do you think is realistically buying them?
