August 14, 2025Aug 14 I don't understand the desire some fans have for Robert Pattinson to join the DCU. The Elseworlds label is one of the few things the DCU has that distinguishes it from Marvel, and I think it should remain separate. DC's animated movies have — off the top of my head — three or four separate continuities with several different versions of each character, and audiences accept it just fine. One of Marvel's biggest problems is that the MCU is so interconnected, telling self-contained stories has fallen by the wayside. James Gunn can keep that from happening at DC by allowing some things to just be their own thing. Just my opinion, obviously.
August 14, 2025Aug 14 Agree. I like Pattinson's Batman enough - and Reeves' world building. So I get why some fans are scared to lose that if people really take to whoever Gunn might cast for the DCU. But based on all of Gunn's DCU inspirations, not to mention the success of Superman (2025) being "fun", it seems pretty obvious that he's going to want a more Batman: The Animated Series-like Batman that's a bit less "dark and gritty." I was actually a little concerned about Superman being too "cartoony" but came to really appreciate the focus on fun - and while Batman won't be that light/hopeful, I tend to think we're not going to get Dark Knight-esque story. Pattinson can be that.
August 18, 2025Aug 18 CB Team I wouldn't be against a merger, as I think the difference in tone is not reason enough to keep the universes separated (Creature Commandos already has little to do with Superman, in terms of tone). However, everyone involved wants to keep things apart, and I wish fans would be more eager about DC Studios actually respecting the desires of the creatives involved with The Batman. It's a great sign when a studio rolls with creatives instead of imposing changes.
