Potential for the potential special project for Pokemon anime.

Featured Replies

I have a fan question for you, inspired by the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Pokémon anime. Many of us grew up with the classic series, and with its milestone anniversary approaching, there's a lot of talk about how it could be celebrated.

A common topic is a potential redub, and one idea that's been gaining traction is a Studiopolis-produced version. This wouldn't be a complete overhaul, but rather an updated, respectful take on the original. Fans envision a redub that would keep the series kid-friendly, with no swearing or inappropriate scenes, while also maintaining the original English names we all know.

The most exciting part of this idea is the potential for a new cast. Imagine hearing Erica Mendez as Ash, Cherami Leigh as Misty, Robbie Daymond as Brock, Cristina Vee as Jessie, Ben Diskin as James and Professor Oak, Keith Silverstein as Meowth, Zeno Robinson as Gary, and Suzie Yeung as Delia. This could be a fantastic way to honor the legacy of the original voice actors while introducing a fresh sound for a new generation.

Additionally, this redub could be a great opportunity to include the original Japanese openings and endings, but with new English singers to give them a modern feel. It would be a nod to the show's Japanese roots while keeping it accessible to English-speaking audiences.

Finally, as a special tie-in for the redub, fans would love to see a new special episode focused on Charicific Valley, perhaps taking place before or after "Charizard's Burning Ambition." With a voice actress like Erica Lindbeck as Liza, it would be a perfect way to expand on a beloved storyline.

Do you think a project like this could be a realistic possibility for the 30th anniversary? It would be a way to honor the classic 4Kids and Viz Media releases while giving the series a fresh new look for a new audience.

This is definitely an interesting idea! I think it would be cool to see them redub the original. I'd especially love to see them fix one of the funniest English voice lines, where the trio is clearly eating rice balls but refer to them as "donuts."

I know Pokemon is going to go in for the 30th anniversary pretty hard next year, so I think it's always possible we'll see something like this!

Does that mean it would happen?

I wish I could say for sure, but your guess is as good as mine at this point.

I hope it would be announced on Pokemon day next year.
