Marvel Announces Cancellation of its Post - "Imperial" Project? Thoughts

Featured Replies

Launched last year as Marvel's decision to explore the cosmic adventures of its intergalactic heroes and villains in the aftermath of Jonathan Hickman's Imperial crossover event. However, after a rather "hot" start Marvel has decided to wind-down operation on the project and end the series as is. Wondering what ya'll make of this? Was it necessary? Is it a bad thing? Is it a good thing?

I was bummed to hear the news, though I will admit that the Imperial series itself didn't get off to that great a start. Still, really enjoyed the ideas and characters (NOVA!) that were getting utilized again, and I was super excited for the upcoming team book (DARKHAWK and CAPTAIN MARVEL!), but now that is likely to not be a long-running book if the rest of the story is being brought to a close.

Between this and the X-Men books, not a big fan of what's happening with these big stories at Marvel at the moment.

I don't know - as an old timer I love marvels cosmic stories but I didn't really think the imperial series was that good - just ok. So maybe the reception was lukewarm so they are ramping back? I did plan to pick up the Imperial Guardians series as I saw Abnett was going to be writing it - I personally have not enjoyed the marvel cosmic books since he left. And as matt mentioned I was looking forward to Darkhawk again. I have enjoyed the new Nova series so far.

I agree on Abnett, the cosmic books are just not as good when he's not involved. It's just magic
