Yesterday at 11:57 AM1 day CB Team The first wave of reactions to Moana have been revealed (tellingly, very close to release), and they're not particularly positive, which suggests the full reviews might be even worse. Is anyone surprised by this? The live-action remakes have rarely been more than fine at best, and just can't capture the same magic of the animated movies, and really I think the writing was on the wall for this being one of the lesser ones the moment The Rock's wig and bodysuit were revealed. It also looks like being a dud at the box office, which is a little more surprising, since Moana is big and these remakes have overcome critical reception several times before. But it's a crowded summer, it doesn't look good, and I think the combination of the original movie being so fresh and it getting a massive sequel less than two years ago is a killer here (tbf, this was green lit before Disney decided to turn its Moana show into Moana 2, but it hasn't helped). What do you think, and is anyone going to see it?
Yesterday at 12:52 PM1 day CB Team Not surprised by the reactions. It never really looked all that good. And yeah I think the animated series is playing a role with the box office projections. This isn't like Lilo and Stitch where it's been 20+ years since the original and there's nostalgia to capitalize on.I'm not gonna see it. If I want to watch Moana, I have Disney+ lol. Got my ticket for The Invite this weekend instead.
22 hours ago22 hr CB Team The budget for this was $200-250 million? How? How is this more expensive than Project Hail Mary?
21 hours ago21 hr CB Team I'll be seeing it this week, but am definitely concerned about it. Yes it's been ten years, but it's also only been ten years since that first Moana. And if you factor in the year or so that it remained super relevant among kids, it really hasn't been long enough for those kids to be nostalgic enough for it to see a new version. The Rock coming back at next WrestleMania for sure, Black Adam style
