Every comic universe handles magic a little differently. Some characters treat it like a discipline, others like chaos, and some blur the line between science, faith, and pure mysticism.

Across any comic universe, who’s your favorite magic user and what makes them stand out to you? Could be their personality, power set, stories, or just how they’re written.

Jokes apart, I absolutely love the Mignolaverse, although Hellblazer comes as a close second as my favorite magic user in comics.

Characters like Doctor Stranger and even Zatanna are hit-or-miss to me. Sometimes the magic is just too random, and they can do anything at any time, or have constraints that get introduced in a story and abandoned in the next one for the sake of dealing with specific threats. I prefer when magic universes have clear systems in place, as that helps to build tension. If everything is possible, there shouldn't be any reason for danger.

Zatanna all the way if we're talking DC and Marvel. The character has evolved immensely over the past decade, both in terms of her internal character development and her control over magic and even her role in the world of magic within DC. Plus, she's just fun, and I adore her.

If we're talking outside of the big two though, one of my favorite magic sagas is Image Comics' Excellence. It follows a character named Spencer Dales and creates a world of magic that to this day is perhaps the most unique and coolest take on magic I've ever read.
