Avatar 4 & 5 Update: Sequels Could Be Cheaper & Shorter? But Is That What We Want?

Featured Replies

Major changes might be coming to the plan for Avatar 4 & 5 - not to mention the planned theme park expansion.

Avatar: Fire & Ash was a terrible way to end the franchise - and Cameron seems over it. I want more films but I'm concerned "cheaper" and "shorter" Avatar movies uin the whole appeal of them. Shorter, maybe. Cheaper, depending on what that actually entails but I'd hate to lose the spectacle in a series that is one of the few truly "blockbuster" visual feasts for theaters these days.

Should the sequels be cheaper and shorter? Or has the series just run out of unobtanium?

Shorter? For sure! I feel like Fire and Ash could have 40 minutes cut from it without anything being missed. Cheaper? Nope! The main appeal of these movies is the visual spectacle, so taking that away will just draw more attention to the script (which, let's be honest, is not the franchise's strongest suit).

Fire and Ash cost $500 million when you factor in the marketing costs. I think they could afford to slice a bit off the budget.

These things definitely need to be shorter. I'm not usually one to complain about run times (I've rewatched The Irishman multiple times), but Fire and Ash was way too long.

Maybe making the next one shorter will help cut down costs a bit since there won't be as much work to do?
