Obsession keep making money... How to you feel about the staff being underpaid?

Obsession came out of its 7th weekend by overtaking The Exorcist in the domestic box office. That's massive! Still, every time I see news of the movie's box office, I keep thinking about how little the cast and crew earned. 750K for the entire budget also means 750K to split among everyone who worked on the movie. It's pennies for Hollywood standards, and pales in comparison to what the people who got the rights of distribution will receive. Jason Blum alone is reportedly getting 17 MILLION. It feels quite unfair.

What do you think?

I saw the creative directors post about only getting paid $6k or something like that and tbh that does sound like it sucks and I wish the people actually making the movies got more money. but I understand the industry is complicated, and hopefully the studio uses the profit they earned to green light more smaller budget movies and more people get to make movies like this. 🤷‍♀️

Exorcist has sold roughly 5 times as many tickets as Obsession. So roughly 100 million tickets vs 20 million tickets.

Hate to say it, but that's kind of the raw deal. It sucks, but also you work on a smaller production then move onto whatever the next one is. But this does reveal how important of a movie working in potential crew bonuses into contracts should be moving forward.

The industry is complicated, but honestly, I think it's kind of wrong for them to not have something set up as a "hey, if this actually works you get more" situation. The right thing to do would be to actually pay the people who make the thing that makes the money. Period. The whole "the people who take the risks get the money" thing has always been sour to me because sure, you take the financial risk... but you could still do the right thing ethically considering your part in it is literally write a check.

Yeah, that's my issue. Sure, the people who took the financial risk will get their piece of the cake. But must they get the whole cake? It's a weird system that doesn't incentivize workers to care, actually.

I say if the cake is big enough everyone should get some cake.
