When I was about 13-15, making it forty years ago, a friend handed me a stack of comic books that were on long story. It was one of the most satisfying and compelling storylines ever, but I've never seen it before or since. I have very little to go on except that it was around 1985 and the heroes, and I believe villains as well, were all insectoid and they had very close bonds with the fully insect steeds.I think it was tied to an action figure line, but the story arc was awesome and moving.

Anyone recognize what I'm remembering?

I think there is a very strong chance you're remembering Sectaurs. Does that sound familiar?

Possibly the Sonic x Power Rangers crossover should be coming next year.

Yeah, there's a 95% chance this was Sectaurs: Warriors of Symbion.

• Coleco action-figure line launched in 1985

• Insect-evolved warriors were telepathically bonded to intelligent insect companions - including larger insects they could ride.

• Marvel published an eight-issue comic series from 1985–86 and there was also an animated miniseries.

Coincidentally, they actually re-released some of those figures a couple years ago. I would see them all the time in the toy section at Walmart.
