I did not care for the Godfather

De Niro was my first favorite actor because of his interaction with the landlord.

I like the Godfather enough but can 100% appreciate why some people wouldn’t.

Part II is good.

But you can full on steer clear of 3.

I've never seen it. I feel like maybe I should give it a chance one day.

This whole thread is a TAKE. Mario Puzo wrote one of the greatest novels about the mix of family and crime, challenging the Mafia's contradictory code of being both. It set the thematic framework for so many American crime stories that came after it (including the obvious ones like The Sopranos) that it's hard to enjoy any similar films or books without a hat tip to Puzo.

Part II Is one of the most masterful uses of the two-timeline structure. It both successfully tells the story of how an immigrant got into a life of crime and built an empire (De Niro's Young Vito), while also showing how the father's immoral bend sews a dark legacy for his son (Al Pacino's Michael) and the entire family, in an inescapable cycle of Karma.

...They don't pay me enough to dissect Part III.

The Godfather is one of my favorite movies of all time. Part II is also great, but I enjoy the first one a bit more because of Brando. Watching Vito meet with everyone before the wedding never gets old.

I've never watched Part III, but it's in the Blu-ray set I have so maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and check it out.

Pacino should have won an Oscar for Michael.

I've heard people say don't worry about watching part 3 and just stick to the first 2. Is that true?

Three just wasn't on the level of the first two.
