Hot Take: Superhero Movies Will See A Resurrection

Featured Replies

With the success of Brand New Day, and Doomsday seemingly outselling it, I see Superhero movies (at least for Marvel at the moment) rising back to the top of the charts. The bigger question is can DC do the same?

The real test for Marvel is gonna be 2028. If Ghost Rider is a big hit, then they'll be all the way back.

Spider-Man and Avengers are huge brand names that are always gonna do well. It's the B- and C-tier characters who aren't as sure a thing anymore. Thunderbolts got great reviews last year and underwhelmed.

This. Also, Endgame was massive, and the box office still deflated afterward. Sure, pandemics played a major role in that, but I guess until Marvel Studios has a string of commercial successes, we won't know for sure if they're really back.

I don't think audiences ever completely lost interest in superhero movies. I think people just became a lot more selective about which ones they were willing to see in theaters.

If Doomsday and Secret Wars deliver, I could definitely see another big run for the genre. DC is the interesting part to me. If they can build some momentum with several successful movies in a row, we could end up with Marvel and DC both doing well at the same time again.
