Peacemaker S2 E8 (Season finale!) Discussion

I’m honestly pretty disappointed with this finale. I like the larger setup of the Sanctuary plot line for the DCU, but this episode felt like Gunn sprinting to the finish line so he can just fry bigger fish down the line and put this obligation away.

Too many threads were completed too cleanly and just as many were ignored, not to mention the indulgent musical performances. Can’t help but wonder what the heck happened here.

All the build-up to the Earth-X reveal, only to spend one episode exploring its larger story. Nobody writes characters better than Gunn, but the finale misses the mark in my opinion. There's only so much emotional moments can do in the face of a messy story.

Felt exactly the same. I know Gunn loves this show and this cast but man that was a weird and very Smallville-like ending. Especially when you think back on season 1’s wildly entertaining finale.

Seemed like it was building up to something big - but the climax is just: we started Checkmate, everyone is happy, and here’s a concert with Foxxy Shazam.

I wanted them to take on the Nazis and was expecting that, so I was surprised that the episode took a completely different direction. That direction was fine, but I agree with a few of the other posters here since it felt more like it was more into the idea of setting up other stuff.

It was an interesting season overall and not at all what I expected. But I love Gunn's writing style and his ability to put the characters first, so while it didn't have the superhero action stuff I was looking forward to, he still did right by a lot of the cast in many different ways.

I think this is the first time I've been let down by a James Gunn thing. Weird feeling. When the credits hit after Flag banished Peacemaker to Salvation, I was like "That's it?!" I paused and saw there were like 15 minutes left, but it was just the credits and a featurette thing.

Was definitely expecting the story to go in another direction. Kept waiting for Keith to show up. Keeping him alive at the end of Episode 7 felt like a set up for something.

I still liked some of the character interactions. Maybe on a rewatch after some time has passed I'll be able to appreciate the episode more. I don't want to call it awful or something just because any theories or predictions I had didn't come true. My own high expectations might have kneecapped the episode for me.

I would have less of an issue with the finale if James Gunn came out today and said, "We've already shot season 3 and we'll have it up in six months!"

One of the most A$$ Season finales I've ever seen. And the season was telling such a great character story... I'm flabbergasted it botched the landing so badly.

The ending wasn’t as strong as the rest of the season but I think we’ll be paid off in other instalments. The clever thing would be not to wait to resolve this in season 3 of peace maker but in one of the other dcu shows coming out soon. Kinda the way the book of boba fett handle some the mandalorian threads in its show.

Its not so much that the episode itself was bad, if there was a season 3 we'd have been like OK great, but now we have to figure out which movie to continue watching. Its like investing yourself in the story and the well-written narrative and jaw-dropping moments, just to find out its fizzled like a cheap dollar-store birthday sparkler. The setup was a shock, but no season 3? No conclusion to it? Just, he's there, now what? Thats the hard part. We are invested in his story, his character. We've been seeing his growth.. And its just, gone. Harkens back to Firefly. Burned once, shouldn't feel like we're burned again. Its tricky with a vague.....watch the movies for more plot, but we dont/wont know abut him. It wasnt a period on the show. it was a .........

What an incredible finale! Season 2 really wrapped things up perfectly — action, humor, and emotion all balanced so well. Peacemaker’s character growth this season was a highlight. Can’t wait to see where they take the story next!
