The worst “expert” ever in a TV episode or movie?

Featured Replies

Was thinking about this today while watching The Bear.

What’s an expert (doctor, finance guy, etc) on a movie or TV show that the plot and characters take seriously as an expert - but was actually wrong, introduced a plot hole, or was just plain dumb?

Mine: Zero Cool from Hackers. Very fun and energetic portrayal of hacking - that isn’t really how hacking works.

Similar vein, but rewatching old episodes of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and watching Willow explain computer know-how is always hilarious. She also kind of seems to leave that behind once they focus more on her becoming a witch, so it's a bit of a plot hole in that we never really bring it up again.

I see your Willow, and I raise you anyone in the Arrowverse. Felicity, Cisco, and Winn can do anything with a keyboard. It gets to a point where it's laughable because what do you mean they can stop a nuclear weapon with a few clicks?

Iris West-Allen, easily. She went from reporter to becoming half the Flash but without any actual powers and to understanding all the technobabble and being able to control everything in Star Labs, practically.

I'll have to think about this one, but I can almost always say it's the lawyers in TV series! It's nothing like that in real life and so many people went to law school recently because they watched law dramas and thought it was like that all the time.
