What's the Deal With Xbox Exclusives?

I only have PS5, so I don't follow Xbox all that closely, but I have to say I'm confused about their recent messaging concerning exclusives. At first it seemed like they were going multi-platform for everything, but now they're going back to console exclusives? I just saw that Gears of War E-Day hasn't been announced for PS5 ... which is strange because they put out Gears Reloaded last year. That felt like Microsoft was trying to introduce the franchise to a new player base before the new release came out.

I've been interested in picking up the Halo remake for PS5 because I've never played a Halo game before, but I'm kinda waffling on that now in case they decide that's the only one that's gonna be multi-platform.

Part of me thinks it's better for Xbox to have exclusives. Competition is always good in a field like this. But it's just really odd to see them try to put the toothpaste back in the tube after putting Forza and Halo on PlayStation (plus other games like Hi-Fi Rush and Indy). They're shooting themselves in the foot from a sales perspective.

I think they're pivoting back to Xbox exclusives under the new CEO to appease longtime Xbox fans who were frustrated at not having exclusives anymore. But it is kind of weird to just announce 2 exclusives out of nowhere after making so many statements about a multiplatform strategy just last year.

As an avid Gears fan who only owns a PS5, the franchise and other exclusives are never going to be enough to get me to buy another console, and even if I did get another one, it would be a Switch 2. That's why I was excited when E-Day was rumored to be a multiplatform release, and it's truly a bummer that it's now exclusive to Xbox. I can't blame them though, and it makes sense if you want to re-emphasize the Xbox as a console. Still bummed I won't get more Gears on PlayStation.

I feel similarly. I totally get why Xbox wants to push people towards their console. But, as someone who already has a PS5 and Switch 2 in the house, I'm just not likely to buy another console. My husband does have an ailing Xbox Series S in the basement, but I'm worried we're about to see exclusives that need the Series X's power to run.
