June 26Jun 26 CB Team SOME CONTEXT BEFORE I GET ROASTED LIKE A ROTISSERIE CHICKEN:I used to be really into video games. Halo was my LIFE back in the day. I camped in a rural small-town Walmart and almost got into a fist fight with a guy over consoles. I am a delight. That said, it has been a thousand years since I've bought a console or a game because life, you know? I also haven't kept up on things but now I'm a parent with a kid who is into stuff and I see all the discourse about GTA6 and... I don't get it? I am in no way minimizing that $100 is a lot of money. It absolutely is. But is it really too much for a game? What is the criteria for "too much"? I mean, Halo 2 set me back around $50 in 2004 money and that's approximately $95 or so in today's shells. Someone please make their case one way or the other for me on this.
June 26Jun 26 CB Team I personally don't think it's too much for a game, as I regularly play board games that are even more expensive. I'm already buying the game at the raised price of $80, so for me it comes down to whether the extra $20 worth it for more GTA stuff or if it would be better spent on another game.
June 26Jun 26 CB Team Personally, I do think it's too much. With how expensive everything you need to just exist is these days, it sucks to see entertainment like games, books, movies, etc. all getting harder to afford even though many of us need the escape more than ever. Games are already going for $70-80 for major AAA releases, and jumping up to $100 makes them feel even more out of reach. That said, I'm not a big GTA person, so I think that makes the pricetag even harder to justify. If Pokemon Winds and Waves comes in swinging at $100, I'm probably going to have to find the budget for it lol. But I won't like it.
June 26Jun 26 CB Team I think it's all contextual. I'm going to assume that GTA VI Ultimate Edition costing $100 will be worth it, but if I had paid that much money for 007 recently, I would have felt ripped off.

But I won't like it.I paid $10 for an iced latte last week, got mad about it, and went out and bought an espresso machine so I can just make my own damn lattes. Everything is so damn expensive. When you put it in that context, I can definitely see how it would be expensive. I guess it just is hard for me to wrap my mind around considering it feels somewhat equivalent to what I paid as a broke grad student in my Halo days. But, then again, I'm the sort of person who will have one big game and fixate on it for a long time so....
