I put in my pre-orders for all three of the new Midnight Universe books today. I ended up getting the horror homage covers: Fright Night for X-Men, The Thing for Fantastic Four, and The Fly for Spider-Man.

I'm interested in the darker take on these characters, and the horror covers definitely sold me on getting all three.

Anyone else planning to check out the Midnight Universe? Which book are you most interested in?

I'm all in, but it's hard not to look at it and think they're really just trying to out-edgy the Absolute books 😅

I have to agree with Spencer that this does feel very close to Absolute, but I also have to admit I'm really intrigued by several of the books haha

I'm sure that's their goal, I just hope the stories are all unique and really lean into the horror aspect. I love reading horror, but Marvel never pushes it far enough.

Definitely check them out, especially if you like horror. I got the Ashcan that shows a very short preview of each of the three storylines.

For anyone wondering what the three books are about:

Midnight X-Men: Vampires and mutants are competing powers in New York, with an uneasy peace that looks like it's about to turn into an all-out war.

Midnight Fantastic Four: Reed's obsession with exploring the unknown leaves him and three others horribly transformed. This one seems to be leaning heavily into cosmic/Lovecraftian horror.

Midnight Spider-Man: Oscorp's experiments turn Peter into a grotesque spider-human hybrid, then they use what they learned from him to create even more human-animal hybrids.

All three are basically darker horror reimaginings of the characters in their own shared universe.

I put in for Xmen - have to be honest the FF and Spidey books didn't sound that interesting to me.

The X-Men sound pretty awesome. I think FF will be good too, but not entirely sure about Spidey. I got all 3 to see which ones I like, but haven't added them to my pull-list yet.
