FantasticJerome

I just ordered 2 of Scott McCloud's books: Understanding Comics and Making Comics. Can't wait to read through them!

We watch those too and always Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for Thanksgiving.

You’re right. It feels like some of the holiday magic is being replaced by convenience and paywalls. There was something special about everyone gathering at the same time to watch The Great Pumpkin on TV. Now it’s hidden on a streaming service, and kids miss out on that shared excitement. We’ve traded tradition for access, and it’s just not the same. The holidays feel more commercialized every year, and while that’s always been part of it, it seems to be getting worse. It’s up to us as parents to keep those traditions alive.

Thank you for the recommendations! I love the Last Ronin, but just realized I haven't finished Re-Evolution, so I have some reading to do there. I'm ordering Lock & Key and Watchmen this week. I'll also check out V for Vendetta. I would also love to read Scott McCloud's books since I want to write comics one day, maybe those will help. My goal is to build an expansive library for my home office so I never run out of great material to read.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add it to the list.

I actually haven't read Watchmen, but I'll add it to my list! I picked up the entire Preacher series today. I've been enjoying book 1 and figured I may as well get the whole set and read straight through. I also picked up a handful of Frank Miller's Sin City, although I'm not sure those will get a ton of rereads.

I love Marvel Zombies! The new series is pretty good so far.

I agree with you on this.

I’m putting together a bookshelf in my home office and looking to expand my graphic novel collection. It got me thinking, what graphic novels or series do you find yourself rereading every year, or ones you’ll always go back to no matter how much time passes? I don’t want to fill the shelf with books I’ll only read once. I have a few staples I revisit pretty often, but I’m looking for new ideas to add to the mix. It can be Marvel, DC, Image, or indie, anything that hits that perfect balance of story and art that never gets old. What’s on your personal reread list?

That's a tough one. I'm currently reading a lot of the image comics dollar first issues and Preacher as far as non-superhero books.

I haven't heard good reviews about the new one, but I'll watch it anyway. I like the series and will give it a shot.

I haven't heard of this one. I'll have to go look it up.

It wouldn't surprise me if they bring it back now knowing that it's mainly the adults that will watch it : )

Dino-Riders! I still have the T-Rex somewhere in storage. It was such a cool series and I'm surprised it get more seasons. I guess the show had a lot of competition that year, possibly from He-Man or something on that level.

I was coming here to say Dino-Riders! I can't believe it didn't become bigger than it was. I still have the T-Rex in storage and wish I would have keep all of them. You should check out all the Dino-Riders collections people have.

I really need to catch up on Star Wars movies! I'm probably 3 or 4 movies behind.

The Substance was really good! Superb body horror

I liked Weapons. Plus it has 3 MCU actors in it : )

We watch horrror movies all the time and so far I really like these: Sinners Weapons Together

That scene from Longlegs where he's driving and starts singing about his parents always gets me haha that's a wild movie. Sinners is really good too!

I love Talk to Me! I've seen it a few times. Nosferatu was also really good. I probably won't rewatch it, but it was a great movie.

I love that series and was really hoping this one would be good, but it doesn't sound like it compares to the previous installments.

I honestly haven't read any Star Trek comics, but will check out the one you recommended. I'm always looking for new stories to get into!

I haven't heard of this channel, but I'll check it out!

Halloween’s right around the corner, and I thought it’d be fun to talk about the darker side of Marvel and DC. Both publishers have done some great horror stories over the years, from the monster and vampire stuff to the more psychological and supernatural series. Which horror-themed comics or storylines would you recommend this time of year? Do you stick with classics, or are there newer ones you think deserve more attention? Post your recommendations here.
