How much Marvel are we really expecting in Spider-Noir?

I want to believe that the Nicolas Cage TV series is going to really remix the character and lore in a satisfying way, but I'm starting to wonder how much Marvel will even really let them get away with.

The fact that it's not even called "Spider-Man Noir" seems like a hint of this, but are they even really going to have era-appropriate versions of the villains? Could just be the cynical part of me after covering this stuff for years.

Given that Spider-Man is Marvel's biggest money maker, I could see Marvel Studios trying to strike a deal to help the MCU stay afloat... But I don't know if the production timeline would allow that, given that Marvel Studios is still cleaning house.

I don't love the Spider-Noir character on its own, so I'm not even excited that this show exists. I think the character works best in the Spider-Verse movies just because it's part of an ensemble and can play off of the other Spider variants in a fun way.

I think this series could end up being a mess. I'll continue to be skeptical until it's actually out.

This show reeks of Sony Spider-Verse desperation. It's got all the hallmarks of why those movies (outside of Venom) failed.

I don't honestly think you can expect to have cast Cage in this thing and expect that anyone can take it seriously. I still like him in a lot of roles but not as the lead of a superhero movie. He barely worked for Ghost Rider. A point that was made even clearer when Gabriel Luna knocked it out of the park as Robbie Reyes.

I like Noir as a comic book character - and, as Logan is saying, as a counterpoint to other characters. I'd even like a Noir Spider-Man story - but Cage just sinks it.

Sadly, I don't really expect much from Spider-Man Noir. The current comic book arc is brilliant, but I don't really think Sony will make this work as well. As for connectivity... I suspect he's removed enough from continuity for Sony to just do their own thing.

My worry for sure. I want to see a 1940s take on like Kraven and Doc Ock, but I'm certain it'll just be random mafia goons

You reading the current Spider-Man Noir series? It's REALLY good, and doing well pitting him against Nazis, but blending it with interesting takes on villains. THAT is something I'd like to see!
