What Movies Would Make Great ... Maybe Even Better ... as a Comic Book?

Featured Replies

While the movie-to-comic book adaptation landscape is loaded with misses, there are some all-time greats out there as well (Read: Star Wars). IMHO, I think "Sinners" would make for a great movie-to-comic book adaptation. What are ya'll thinking?

The original Screamers (with Peter Weller). Criminally underrated '90s Sci-fi/action/horror that I think could make at least two good sequel arcs if in the right hands. An interesting world with some lingering philosophical questions just waiting to be expanded upon in comic form.

I know there's a sequel, but I would probably retcon and go in a different direction.

Might be a controversial take, but anything by Zack Snyder. He has a great eye for iconic shots and visual composition that would lead to some magnificent splash pages, but his writing is really out of pace in film... Think of Sucker Punch, for instance. That movie is basically split into issues already (or gaming levels). I think his entire filmography would work better in a periodical medium where visuals can carry a so-so story.

Sinners is a great pick. I think John Wick could make the leap to comics too, but it would require an artist with a specific style to maintain that fluid action, someone like James Harren or André Lima Araújo .

That’s a solid pick. I’ve always thought movies like District 9 or Children of Men would actually work really well as comics.

Both have big worlds and ideas that the films only have time to hint at, and a comic could slow things down and explore different perspectives without losing the tone.

That's a good example and I'm sure a comic version of Sucker Punch would work well.

I would KILL for a comics version of Sucker Punch. That movie made me so mad and I was so disappointed but the bones of a really great story are RIGHT THERE>

I know it has issues but I still love Sucker Punch, and would love to see that as a comic series

Children of Men is a great pick!

I agree! There's already a built-in market for it and the universe is ready to be explored.

District 9 would be great, since we're never going to get that sequel movie

Yes! I absolutely love the premise and the universe, but the execution is... not that great. The director's cut really improved some of the movie's flaws, but it's still not enough to fully salvage it, imo.

The comic version of John Wick is really solid, if you haven’t read it. I wish Harren or Araújo had drawn it!

I completely agree. I think Rebel Moon would translate so well as a comic, and be a better product.

Yep, they really could have made something great with a sequel. Hopefully they pick it up in comic form one day.

HA! Didn't even know there was one. I'll have to give it a look.
