Kathleen Kennedy is out of Star Wars? How are we feeling?

Fine? I think Kennedy ultimately did more good than bad with Star Wars (Force Awakens, Rogue One, Last Jedi, Mando S1&2, and Andor are highs that were absolutely worth the lows of things like TROS and Boba Fett), but it was probably time to move on. Jury is out on Filoni in this specific role (Brennan is clearly very experienced and should be business as usual on that side), but so long as it's balanced, it'll be ok. And it at least means things will start moving forward more now, as the long-term future of the franchise has clearly been in stasis while waiting for this changeover to happen. Still can't for the life of me fathom how Simon Kinberg is the guy whose new movies are the most likely to happen, but 🤷‍♂️

I agree it was time for a change. Filoni was the most natural successor given his ties to Lucas, and I like that they have Brennan there to handle the business side while Filoni focuses on the creative side. I'm interested to see which projects get the green light under Filoni's leadership.

Kennedy's comments about The Hunt for Ben Solo in her exit interview were fascinating. I would love for Filoni to try to revive that. I still cannot wrap my head around Disney turning down a completed Star Wars script that would have been directed by Steven Soderbergh.

I'm worried about Filoni taking over the creative side. As passionate as he is about the franchise, I really don't know that we get something like Andor if he's the one calling the shots all these years.

Yeah I don't get that one either, though I think that was an Iger call right?

Yeah. Kennedy and Lucasfilm were all excited about it, and when they brought it to Disney, Iger said no. Only time that's ever happened.

Yeah, that was Iger.

I'm... more positive than I was a few weeks ago, because I feel like I've got to grips with the direction Filoni and Brennan are taking (although I am getting irritated at how Brennan is being sidelined; I understand she's not running the creative direction, but it sits uncomfortably with me). The Kennedy quote that she started succession planning two years ago finally makes sense of why plans changed in such a massive way in early 2024, so I think I get it now.

She got a lot of smoke from a certain corner of the Star Wars fandom who erroneously see themselves as the guardians of all the "galaxy far far away." But ultimately she was like any executive who spends too many years in the same position ... she won some and lost some ... it's just that the one's she lost were stacked at the end of her run. She failed on the last three Star Wars films. Nevertheless, she was a giant in the universe who George Lucas seemed to support, who I believe the time had come for her to move on but one should not ignore her accomplishments.

This is my main concern... As far as we know, Filoni fought back on Andor being developed, which is a massive red flag
