Is January still a dump month?

I think an argument could definitely be made that January is shifting away from its "dump month" status, though I'm not sure if it will ever be able to fully drop that. It will be interesting to see if other successful releases arrive in January in the coming years.

Honestly, I think September is the new dump month. January still is to an extent, but studios have found that a good movie can still perform without having to trick audiences into going.

Primate looks interesting! I saw the previews while watching Five Nights at Freddy's and it seems like it has potential.

Primate is low-key one of the better January horror debuts in years. Definitely better than Wolf Man or Night Swim the previous few years. Ben the chimp is a vibe.

Wolf Man and Night Swim alone might disprove the notion that January is recovering from Dumping Ground status
