What comic character do you think is consistently miswritten?

Some characters feel like they change wildly depending on who’s writing them, and not always for the better.

Is there a comic character you love (or want to love) that you feel is often miswritten, misunderstood, or handled inconsistently? What do you think writers tend to get wrong about them?

The Joker is probably the right answer, given how inconsistent he can be.

That said, there are a handful of characters I feel writers struggle to get right. Iron Man, for instance. Or the Punisher. And since that unfortunate storyline, no one knows how to handle Hank Pym... Actually, now that I think about it, I feel that the nature of a decades-long storyline makes CONSISTENT character the exception, not the rule. One more reason to love Daredevil.

Iron Man seems like one that flies under that radar.

Given the character's arc of an arms dealer who gives it up but also becomes his greatest living weapon, I feel like there's a lot of repetition that comes with him.

I can imagine it's tough to keep all characters consistent, especially those who've been around so long. Also, I'm sure there are many writers who write characters without doing enough research and that probably contributes to some issues.

Yep, I can see that. I read Iron Man comics as a kid, but got bored with him easily.

I think if we're being really honest, most characters are consistently miswritten but that is largely an issue of shifting editorial mandate and creative ideas of individual writers. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just something that I think we see more of than we really realize.

For sure, it also doesnt help that we have decades of comics at our fingertips these days so we can find the holes immediately.
