Do you think Lucasfilm was right to cancel The Acolyte?

Featured Replies

I'm sad that a SW project had to get canceled, but happy this was the one to end. It just wasn't great storytelling. It felt wonky throughout. And it definitely didn't need the budget it was given.

It was a strange show. I could see a lot of the potential, but I felt like the flashbacks really killed the momentum. Just... didn't quite work for me.

Yeah, I think that budget (which... did not come across on-screen) combined with low viewership makes it very easy to see why Lucasfilm cancelled it. Obviously the latter of those is wrapped up in the toxic backlash to the series, which makes its cancellation way more unfortunate, as the worst people will take it as legitimisation of their views, but also... the show sadly wasn't good. I would like to see more of Qimir, though, who I actually think was an interesting character (and Manny Jacinto gave by far the best performance in the series), including what happens next with him and Plagueis, but that's the only part I'm interested in continuing

We can talk business semantics all day, but as someone who doesn't care if the Walt Disney Corporation makes money or not, I would have preferred it to keep going.

It was different from the other shows and it didn't feel bogged down by lore from cartoons, plus it was more compelling to me than Skeleton Crew.

No. The show had explored some interesting "long tail" aspects of the Star Wars universe that deserved a deeper exploration. Alternatively, if they thought that they were going to cancel it they should have tied off most/all of the loose ends.

. But also I think Disney caved in part to the massively negative push back from those sectors of Star Wars fandom that disliked that director and some of the actors in the show. Will make creative minds think twice about trying their hand at a Star Wars story precisely when the Star Wars universe needs all the creativity it can muster.

Yeah, the backlash was insane. I refuse to believe anybody actually cared about Ki-Adi-Mundi's birthday, which was only specified in a 1999 CD-ROM that George Lucas himself ignored when he gave Mace Windu a purple lightsaber. (No, I'm not exaggerating.)
