Who's Winning the Comic Book Wars? Marvel, DC or ... ?

Featured Replies

Which company is doing better with comic book fans? Some say Marvel's Ultimate Universe is better than DC's Absolute Universe. Others say it's the opposite. But there's also the Energon Universe, the Godzilla Universe, and the TMNT reset. Which publisher do you think is currently putting out the best comic book content?

Oooh that's a tough one! I'll say that I've always been team Marvel, but I'm slowly starting to dip my toes into more D.C. titles and adding them to my pull-list. I'm a huge fan of what Image is producing right now such as Geiger, Rook: Exodus, Junkyard Joe, etc. I think this is a great time to be a comic fan because there are so many great titles to choose from.

I was a "Never DC" as a kid. Then discovered independent comics and manga as a teenager. It broadened my mindset and helped me discover a lot of great DC content. Now, I'm just a fan of quality comic/manga, whoever produces it. That being said, I'm kinda liking DC's content ... at least I'm reading those titles first before I read anything else.

If we consider the big two, DC is currently ahead by every metric. If we consider the industry as a whole, I would say BOOM is having a phenomenal run because even with a fraction of the resources and the market presence of Marvel and DC, BOOM keeps putting amazing titles out there.

Granted, I'm a bigger DC fan than I am a Marvel fan, though I still love Marvel. That said, DC's output has been outstanding on the whole, and the Absolute Line on its own is one of the best things in comics period. Second for me would be the Energon Universe and then the TMNT universe, as those books are excellent as well.

DC is definitely having a better year, although there ARE some standout Marvel titles. I will admit, though, I'm finding the DC KO event very difficult to keep track of in terms of tie-ins. Do wish DC had a regular "previously" page like Marvel to help you keep track of everything!

I am definitely not feeling KO. I keep an eye on it but it's one of those things that I feel just isn't necessary.

Every now and again an issue gets me interested, but then I try to navigate the wider story and just wind up confused again! Doesn't help that even the supposed prologue issues are actually halfway through a story. It's like it's designed to frustrate lol.
