Can Sony really reboot its live-action Spider-Man movies without the MCU?

Apparently, Sony is closing the page on its failed villain universe and is willing to start fresh with a reboot of live-action movies... I'm not sure that can work, unless these new movies are set in the MCU and made in partnership with Marvel Studios. Spider-Man movies without Spider-Man are doomed to fail, and given how popular Tom Holland and the MCU are, it wouldn't make sense to have a parallel franchise running at the same time. Unless they focus on the Spider-Verse, like with Spider-Noir.

What do you think about it?

I think it CAN work, but they need to have a stable person at the center of it all. Certain folks behind the scenes of every terrible Marvel movie out of Sony need to take a back seat and they need to find a voice that walks the line of giving audiences something they're actually interested in.

Honestly, exploring the corners of the Spider-Verse like that might be the answer, but it all starts with the people calling the shots, meaning Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have got to GO.

They really need to steal someone from Marvel or DC to lead this effort. They can make this work they just need the right person leading the way. There are several people in Marvel that would be ideal.

I agree that they need a central figure sort of leading the charge and keeping everything on track. I also agree though that having Spider-Man movies that don't actually connect to Spider-Man is just not an enticing concept. Even if he's not the central figure, you still have to factor him into the story in some way, otherwise it's all dead in the water.

Yeah, this. The villains, sidekicks, and supporting characters' identity is inextrinsically tied to Spider-Man. Removing Spdier-Man means changing what fans like about a certain character. That just can't work!

Tbh... I actually feel like the industry as a whole is starting to move away from shared universes. So I'd settle for standalones, different versions of Spider-Man, and only do crossovers if it feels organic.

Hopefully! I would love that, but I don't trust Sony that much.
