Do You Want a Project Hail Mary Sequel?

For those of you who have seen Project Hail Mary, do you want a sequel?

As much as I love the movie, I would be perfectly fine with it staying a standalone. It told its story and the ending is perfect. Don't ruin it.

The good news is that reports are saying "Weir is in the driver's seat" when it comes to a sequel, so hopefully it won't happen unless he has a strong enough idea.

I don't, for the same reason as you. The ending is so powerful because of Grace's choice, plus the ambiguity over what comes next, which a sequel would likely have to do if it were to bring Grace back. That said, if Andy Weir were to find a story he thinks is worthwhile, I'd trust him to deliver.

And I mean, if we can't get The Nice Guys 2, and this instead becomes Gosling's buddy franchise where Grace and Rocky go around on intergalactic adventures investigating problems and saving aliens, I'm not going to be too mad about it. But seriously just give us The Nice Guys 2.

This movie was a pretty good distillation of a novel – few films balance the character and narrative depth of a book while still being succinct enough, with enough spectacle, to entertain as a movie.

So, until Andy Weir writes a second book, and it, too, is a bestseller, we don't need a sequel film.

See: Doctor Sleep

Yeah, there's no story left. Grace lives on Erid, and Earth is saved!

I can see a Hollywood-style sequel where they have to go out and fight Super Astrophage and meet another alien together, but it would be terrible

Oh this is definitely as "one and done" of a movie you can get. If there is a sequel, keep it to the books. This movie is good as it's own self-contained, completed story. Nothing about it left me wanting more.
