I know I had to do a triple take to make sure we weren't still being April Fool's pranked, but it looks like we really are getting the Defenders back (check out the story here).

How do we all feel about this? It's pretty exciting. Wild this is how we found out about it, but I know a lot of folks are excited for this to happen.

I had the same April Fools thought lol. While I'm generally excited, I actually hoped Finn Jones would be recast; I wasn't at all a fan of his portrayal, and he soured the entire Defenders era for me. Marvel will need to handle him very well indeed, and this time he will have to actually put in the effort when it comes to fight choreography.

I was already very excited for Jessica Jones' return, because I love Krysten Ritter's portrayal and think S1 of that show is up there with the very best of Marvel TV. The Defenders as a whole, though, I struggle to get excited about. The original team-up series sucked. Iron Fist was terrible. Luke Cage had half a good season, but I do like Mike Colter's portrayal. But yeah, idk, will see how it plays out because I trust what they're doing with Born Again 🤷‍♂️

Same here. Luke Cage was ok, despite the actor being great. The first season crashed after Cottonmouth's death, and the second season was stretched too thin across 13 episodes, although I LOVE Bushmaster.

Iron Fist's first season is genuinely awful. The second season is a lot better, but still not great. The best part of Iron Fist Season 2 was Coleen becoming the Iron Fist, which apparently will change.

So, yeah, I'm not super excited. I hope the writing will be better and things will make sense, but given the time jump from the Defenders era to Born Again, AND the MANY cliffhangers of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, I'm afraid things might get rushed. Matt, Jessica, and Frank returned to work because their individual series had an ending of sorts. Luke Cage and Iron Fist just got interrupted.

This tells me everything I need to know about what Marvel Studios thinks of characters like Iron Fist. Danny Rand is so great in the comics and has some excellent stories that could make for great movies or shows, but they'd rather bring back the guy that people barely even liked for the cheap trick of nostalgia that's barely a decade old.

There has been a LOT of Defenders slander in the last week. I LIKED that crossover. It was like Marvel's version of a CW Arrowverse event. Sure, I want bigger and better from the MCU, but I had prayed for times like that!

(But seriously: Sigourney Weaver as a "villain" was Weird)

It was okay... But such an obvious downgrade from Jessica Jones and Daredevil, and on the heels of Iron Fist, so its flaws became more apparent. Sigourney Weaver as an immortal ninja made absolutely no sense. Plus, The Hand (which looked like a major threat in Daredevil and even Iron Fist) turned out to be impressive. Finally, they locked a bunch of great supporting cast into a police station instead of giving them something useful to do.

It's a bit of a mixed bag because they assume we liked all of the Defenders lol. Instead of choosing the stuff that worked from the Netflix shows and ignoring the rest, we've yet to see what it means to fully throw all of this into the MCU. But we'll have to see how this all works in Season 3.
