April 5Apr 5 I believe that Avengers: Doomsday is going to be one of the most successful Marvel movies ever, and I think that will happen whether its a good movie or not. I think the amount of fan service mixed with the fan bases desire to have an experience like Endgame again will put people in seats, and I think unless it’s literally the worst movie of all time, no word if mouth about quality is going yo change that. With that said, as a long term fan, I also am unfortunately pretty worried it’s not going to be very good. I think it’ll be fun-ish and look cool but I think the story is going to take a huge hit to let Nostalgia shine.
April 6Apr 6 CB Team Yeah, it's a given that it will be a hit, but will it really make a blip culturally? The MCU being down is a given, can this give them a spark to keep it going or is it a flash in the pan success that confirms it's over?
April 6Apr 6 CB Team Definitely agree. It has a lot of draw power that I think will have fans heading to theaters to check it out even if it's not that great, and I agree that even bad word of mouth won't be enough to stop people from going.
April 7Apr 7 CB Team I think it will make money, but I'm still unsure if it will make enough. These movies cost 400+ million dollars to make, which means anything short of 1.2 BILLION will not be a good return on investment. Even great movies like Thunderbolts* struggled at the box office, despite the insanely good word-of-mouth. While the Avengers will have an easier time scoring a massive opening weekend, I'm still unsure whether they'll surpass 1.5 billion (which is what they need for it to be a success). The fact that Avatar 3 underperformed puts me on the fence for Doomsday.

It's weird because this era of blockbuster filmmaking has completely eschewed public perception of box office success. People now think 200/300 million at the box office is automatically awful, when it's actually a massive win for most movies.
April 8Apr 8 CB Team It's gonna make money - especially in the opening weekend - but I think word of mouth is gonna dictate if it has legs or not. If opinions are mixed, I could see this one having a steep second weekend drop off as more people check out Dune.
April 8Apr 8 CB Team It's certainly going to do well, but it's not going to hit 2019 numbers. Marvel needs to establish what their new version of "success" will be in this changing cinematic climate, and Doomsday will be the barometer for that. Curious to ultimately see how well it does even with so much stacked against it culturally, critically, and more.
April 10Apr 10 CB Team Plus, Marvel is gearing up for a soft reset after secret wars, if this one doesnt connect, audiences wont buy into that either
