How do we feel about the "hockey romance" entertainment trend?

Heated Rivalry was huge. Now there's going to be an adaptation of Icebreaker. What do we all think about the hockey romance trend? I admittedly have only lightly read some books in that overall genre, but I'm intrigued by the sudden popularity of it in tv shows,

I have no real interest myself but one of my friends is obsessed with hockey romance books (and all other kinds of romance smut tbf) and now the shows, to the point her and other friends now regularly go to hockey games, so I think that's pretty fun and it's cool that audience is being served in such a major way. And if that success then works/translates with how they approach some other major book genres then even better

As someone who spends a lot of time on Bookstagram, I'm pretty tired of seeing hockey romances everywhere. I'm all for variety in the bookish space and while I have zero interest in sports romance, I would never yuck anyone's yum. That said, seeing how publishers just oversaturate the market with anything that gets trendy on TikTok is a little bit exhausting and makes me worried about what other books are getting passed up for another take on the same concept. Happy that fans of the books are getting adaptations, though. Just... we can stop making new books now. There are plenty of iterations on hockey romance to keep folks busy for years at this point.

As a former resident of Canada, I can say I'm here for it. Might be the most fun I've actually had watching hockey.

I did not expect you to be down for hockey romance, Ben.

I always worry that when hollywood leans into book trends things get lopsided so fast, but this so far has seemed pretty fun and honestly, if there ends up being a situation where more people read after watching tv, it's all good.
