The Avengers are scattered after Endgame and the world feels like it needs a new team to step up. Some heroes have the experience, others have the power, and a few have the heart to bring everyone together again.

With Secret Wars on the horizon and rumors of multiversal crossovers, who do you think should lead the Avengers in the next era?

Honestly, that's a good question. I don't think it'll be any of the above if I'm honest. Captain Marvel hasn't exactly been well received since her introduction, be that because of Brie, the script or other reasons, and Anthony just doesn't have the star power to lead (sorry). Captain America 4 was (I thought) terrible. The same star power argument goes for Letitia(?).

Of the five in the poll, I'd say Strange. I don't think (nor do I really want) another Tony Stark because (re)introducing a new Ironman kinda' devalues the Endgame Death.

From my comic knowledge, both Luke Cage and Black Panther have led the Avengers, so unless it's a mystical threat where you'd get Stephen in, I'd vote for one of them; leaning more toward T'Challa if they can bring in a new one or age-up T'Challa Jr.

Good points all around. I agree that Strange makes the most sense right now since he’s already handling multiverse-level threats. I should have added T’Challa and Luke Cage to the poll, though. Both have led the Avengers in the comics and would make strong options if Marvel ever brings them forward in the MCU again. I wasn't sure of the status of T'Challa if they were planning on recasting him or bringing up T'Challa Jr to take his place. That would make sense and he would be a great contender to lead. You're right about the star power of a few of the actors and I don't think Captain Marvel is well received.

While I think based on what's happened in the MCU to this point it should probably be Captain America, I will always vote for Captain Marvel. The Marvels got Carol much closer to her comics counterpart than before, but honestly they still haven't quite gotten that right. If this were the comics, it's Carol all the way for me.

What about Monica Rambeau? Unless I'm mistaken she occasionally holds the 'Captain Marvel' title doesn't she? I mean, if Brie doesn't work out...

In the context of the MCU I'd be fine with that if she took the title over or something, but she doesn't have the same connection to the Avengers as Brie's Carol did from Infinity War and Endgame. Love the character though!

Honestly, I think the way to figure it out is which current character is beloved by the fans but in the context of the MCU would be reluctant to lead, despite being good for it.

So I think the answer is Florence Pugh's Yelena.

I thought of that too. I recently watched the Thunderbolts and liked it. I need to rewatch it. So were they supposed to replace the Avengers at the end or was it a teaser? My kids were loud when we were watching it and I wasn't able to pay attention.

Yes and while he's not on Steve Rogers' level, he could still lead a team that's significantly more powerful than him. He could be the voice of reason. I do miss Steve though, he had it all.

I would 100% be behind Yelena leading the team

I think she could do it. Especially the New Avengers team. Maybe Sam Wilson on the main team and Yelena for the New Avengers. I think it would be a good mix. I really like her as a character.

This is the only right answer!

I'm afraid as much as I've enjoyed the Yelena character and development, I don't see her leading a team of actual heroes - not on the level of Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man etc.

If we're talking reluctant heroes, then I'd actually propose Stephen Strange or Peter Parker.

I'm not quite sure even Disney know what they're doing with this dynamic. After the next two Avengers films, or even during them, if there's too many 'teams' that'll just be chaotic.

In the context of MCU shenanigans, having one team of heroes as 'the Avengers' and another named 'the New Avengers' just seems stupid.

I feel like the whole point of Phase 4 (lol) was to set up Sam as the new leader of the Avengers? It's a shame the MCU never really went for it, but I hope that's starting to change. Wouldn't feel right without Captain America leading the Avengers, regardless of who is actually on the team going forward

I agree with you on this.

It probably was, but Sam is no leader, and Disney messed up big time with Captain America 4. That's right down there with Thor 2 for me as one of the weakest MCU installments.

It's a shame because there is a good movie buried in there. But they went back and forth so much that you can actually see how they were afraid to commit to any meaningful story... Sam deserved a lot better.
