Switch 2 On Budget

Featured Replies

Me and my other two friends are waiting for switch 2 possible on OLED version and standard version to be on a price budget situation! Cause we can't afford it on that very price ! One of my friend said waiting on the switch 2 OLED version! As for me I'll might as well do the same? My other friend loves playing Pokemons and willing to get that new Pokemon game that's is very , very similar like minecraft , Poketopia! There's is one game that really caught my eye is donkey Kong bonanza! So I'm on budget as well , so I'm saving my money as well from gifts that I received , so it's working progress I'm getting on one as a pretty much free switch 2 if I keep doing that progress!

I'm enjoying my Switch 2, but I think you can definitely still wait at this point. That said, Pokopia being for Switch 2 only was definitely the sell for me. I need that Pokemon cozy game in my life ASAP. Hopefully there will be some good holiday discounts on the Switch 2 soon that might make it more feasible for your budget!

I've been curious, are there major differences between the Switch 1 and 2?

Switch 2 is way more powerful, so games run visibly better. I've played Breath of the Wild on Switch 2 and had zero framerate drops. So, great games are even better because they no longer have performance issues, which is nice. The increased power of the Switch 2 also allows for more ambitious games. Donkey Kong Bananza is basically a voxel game, and you can destroy every fragment of terrain. The processing power needed to calculate the position, effects, and even the mere existence of so many entities at the same time just didn't exist in the Switch 1. So, even if you don't care much about framerates and visuals, the Switch 2 gives developers more tools to play around with. That will also lead to a new batch of ports to the Switch 2, as bigger developers can now be comfortable that the system will run their games smoothly, so that gives Switch owners access to more third-party games. Now there's also an integrated voice system to chat with friends, in case you like to play online.

All that said, unless you are a fan of Nintendo IPs, the GabeCube (aka Steam Machine) is now the best option for a future aquisition (depending on the price, of course).

As someone who tends not to be too bothered by graphics or bad frame rates unless they're super awful, I didn't expect to notice much. You can definitely tell the display is crisper, and games tend to run a bit better. The console itself is also a good bit larger, which I am personally not a fan of as its a bit heavier to lug around. The magnetic versus slide-in attachment for the Joy-Cons is nice. There's also the built-in microphone, which is nice if you want to play online games but otherwise not a huge factor. But honestly, the biggest thing I've noticed is the Joy-Con sensitivity is a lot better, so games like Fitness Boxing 3 are a lot more responsive and accurate than they were on the OG Switch.

My six year old son loves Pokemon. Just discovered it this summer and ripped through every game the public library had (Arceus, Shield etc.) for Nintendo Switch.

Wasn't planning on buying a Switch 2 for him but now with Pokopia being a Switch 2 exclusive may have no choice...

Grrrr

Thank you! My kids mainly play simple games and like beat em ups like TMNT, so I'm considering just replacing their old ones with an older Switch for now. They probably won't carry it around much and it will likely stay in the gaming room connected to a TV.

That does sound like an improvement. My kids mainly play beat em ups like the TMNT game and other simple games, so I may just get them an original Switch for now and maybe upgrade it later. They will likely spend most of their Switch time connected to the TV instead of carrying it around.
