It's almost New Comic Book Day, and we're here to get you ready for tomorrow's stacked lineup of new comics!

Some immediate standouts are the Absolute books, which include Absolute Wonder Woman #15 (the first meeting of Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman!), Absolute Superman #14 (Battle of Kansas Conclusion), and Absolute Maritan Manhunter #7. There's also some intriguing DC K.O. tie-ins, including The Flash #28 and Red Hood vs. Joker.

On the Marvel side, The Will of Doom #1 has big ripple effects moving forward, and there are a host of Age of Revelation books releasing, though I'm curious to know if everyone is enjoying that event and what you've thought of it so far.

Other big highlights include TMNT: Battle Nexus #1, Skinbreaker #4, Gray Lady #1 from Image Comics, and the Gargoyles Winter Special 2025 #1 from Dynamite.

On the Trades side, you can pick up some great books this week, including Absolute Flash Vol. 1, Green Lantern Compendium One: Rebirth, and Exceptional X-Men by Eve L. Ewing Vol. 2.

Let us know what books you're thinking of picking up, and then come right back here after you've read everything to let us know what delivered and what didn't!

I'll also add a shout to the new Hello Darkness from BOOM Studios. It's my favorite anthology to follow at the moment.

I haven't read it yet, but I've been curious, soI might need to check it out!

I have not been collecting the Absolute series. Can someone explain what they are or how they are different?

Thank you

No problem!

So the premise of the Absolute books is that this is a universe created in Darkseid's image, and so there's naturally a much darker and harder-edged tone to its world, its heroes, and its villains. The first three that launched were Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman, and Absolute Superman, and they all changed up the origins and histories while keeping the true core elements of the heroes from the mainline. They've also changed some of the key relationships, so Batman and Alfred's partnership is much different, but it's still there. Circe is a key character in Wonder Woman, but in a completely different way, that kind of thing.

If you were to try one, I'd suggest picking your favorite of the DC Trinity and rolling with that one for a few issues and see what you think. I personally love Absolute Wonder Woman the most, but Superman and Batman are fantastic too, so you really can't go wrong. If you get a chance to read one, let me know what you think!

The first 4 or 5 issues are rough, to be honest. But after that, they managed to keep a high overall quality. It's an anthology of short stories, so some will inevitably be better than others. But it keeps getting better over time.

The only thing I was really looking forward to this week (mostly because of the holiday, just wanted to be lowkey) was the Marvel Winter Break Special. Did not disappoint. It was jut the right level of cheese.

I’m super behind on Void Rivals, but #25 is out this week, and I will hopefully catch up on it and the other Energon Universe titles.

I really need to dig into Absolute Martian Manhunter. I’ve heard such great things, and I was surprised how much I’m enjoying the other Absolute titles. Wonder Woman still stands out on top, though all the trinity titles are great.

Absolute Martian Manhunter is my favorite Absolute title (even though they are all good to great)

The Energon Universe rules, and I'm loving G.I. Joe and Transformers, but I admit Void Rivals is the one I constantly fall behind on.

Okay, we've got a few days in now, so I feel like we can talk about some spoilers for Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman. First, though, just in case you haven't read it yet, feel free to skip until you have.

SPOILERS

I cannot tell you how happy I am that Kelly Thompson got to do the first Absolute hero crossover. Simply adored her handling of Diana and Bruce and how they interacted, as well as the magnified differences in a meeting between the two in this universe and what we've come to know in the mainline universe.

As for Absolute Superman, good Lord, that book kicks, and THAT death had me reeling and yet makes perfect sense for the character moving forward.

How about a possible Sonic and Power Rangers crossover comic book series where Sonic and his friends team up with the Power Rangers to defeat Dr. Eggman and Rita Repulsa. Then Jason and Tommy give their morphers to Sonic and Shadow to become the red and green rangers in the final issue.

Would love that!!! Honestly, I haven't seen a bad Power Rangers crossover yet, and after seeing what DC and Sonic are doing, would love to see what Power Rangers and Sonic could do, as long as Big the Cat is involved

I've been considering getting the trade paperbacks for the Absolute universe so I don't have to flip through my single issues.

I'm really excited to pick up all three of the first three volumes in trade and see how they read. I loved them in single issue form, but books like Superman probably read even better in trade.
