How do you feel about Frodo returning in LOTR: The Hunt for Gollum?

The news of Frodo and Gandalf's return is doing the rounds again (it's actually from August), but since it is... how do you feel? Gandalf appearing was inevitable since the story demands it, Frodo just feels unnecessary to me (even if it'll likely be a small role, perhaps as a framing device). LOTR, like so many franchises, feels a bit stuck in not being able to move on from the original trilogy and those main characters.

I'm not sure how I feel about Hunt for Gollum in general lol. LOTR is one of my favorite film series of all time. I grew up with the original trilogy. But I just can't get excited for this. Maybe that'll change once we see some footage - I'm sure I'll fall for some nostalgic bits. But after the Hobbit trilogy I'm ready to just leave this franchise as is.

I love the original trilogy... I think The Hobbit trilogy is mediocre, I dropped Rings of Power after the first season, and even The War of the Rohirrim failed to capture the same magic for me. I'm simply not excited about Hunt for Gollum at all! They are taking a footnote in the lore and stretching it into a full movie, with returning characters for nostalgia's sake. I don't think this can be a good movie when the inspiration is just corporate greed.

I have big questions/concerns about this movie in general. The original films were great, but I've been less happy with subsequent attempts to iterate on the source material. Frodo being in a Gollum movie doesn't make me feel any better about the project, I don't think.

I agree, I think Frodo has done his job already and shouldn't be brought into new material. I love the character, but we risk them diluting his story.

From the outisde it feels like a studio just trying to wring every drop out of a franchise, but it would be easy for me to write it off if the team behind the original movie wasn't involved.

I feel the same. the original movies are perfect and will be watchable 100 years from now. However, it's hard to get excited about new stories at this point.

I didn't know the original team is involved. That gives me some hope that this will at least be good in some aspects.

Well... the team behind the original movies was also behind The Hobbit... That didn't do it any good. Honestly, if I didn't work in the industry, this would be a movie I wouldn't even care about watching unless it starts getting stellar reviews.
