Toy Story running out of gas?

I thought it was a mistake for them to make 4, so I don't want to just doubt 5. I think it'll be good and I like the "toys vs. tech" angle.

At the same time, I wouldn't be totally surprised if one of us is writing "Toy Story 5 Sets Unwanted Franchise Rotten Tomatoes Record" in a few weeks haha. Not that it's gonna be panned, just not as enthusiastically reviewed as the others.

I still think it’s a great series, but it does kind of feel like we may be approaching the natural end of it. Oddly enough, the new movie almost seems aware of that too with the whole toys vs. technology angle.

Kids today grow up with tablets, phones, and games almost immediately, and a lot of physical toys end up getting left behind once electronics enter the picture. In a weird way, that feels symbolic of Toy Story itself.

My kids stopped playing with toys about a year ago and mostly play games and use electronics now. I still catch myself wanting to grab them toys when I see something cool, before remembering that phase has kind of passed. Maybe that’s why this one feels more emotional to me than just “another sequel.”

The scene where Andy goes to college and the toys are watching him drive away from the porch still gets me to this day!

Save that headline for two weeks from now 😂

I am genuinely quite fascinated with the cynicism around Toy Story. The first movie was a masterpiece. The second was even better. The third was also tier 1 film-making, and even when lots of people were very cynical about the need for Toy Story 4, it was excellent. 5 will make a load of money, has a genuinely good and appropriate storyline, given the weird blindspot of tech in the other movies, and has very little chance of being anything other than excellent. I don't get it.

I grew up with Toy Story and love 1 and 2. I didn't mind when they made 3 as I thought it was a good ending. 4 was good but didn't think it was necessary. I hope 5 is also good but they should just stop with them already.

I'm in the camp that doesn't understand teh cynicism or that we don't need sequels. Toy Story hasn't missed yet, with even my least favorite entry being a really good film, and Toy Story 5's whole premise couldn't be more relevant or timely. I'm all for sequels when they're good, and Toy Story has an excellent track record.
