Spider-Man: Organic webbing vs. mechanical web-shooters

Featured Replies

My favorite Spider-man is the animated(1994)... So part of me is leaning to mechanical, but I also like organic because that would make more sense that he became able to produce web. I think it should be a mix of the two. Organic but it's messy. Spays everywhere and creates messy web strands, but don't really allow for swinging accurately. They're not as structured as they are with the help of mechanical. Mechanical would help structure it into better strands, allowing him to swing better and make cartridges and intricate things such as weapons, shields, backpacks, etc.

Wouldn't let me edit, but to add to it... As far as weakness/plot armor goes, organically, he could be having performance problems, etc. and mechanical problems with the cartridges ruining out or being damaged, etc.

I do like stories when something happens to his web shooters and he has to improvise.

See I'm the opposite because I'm just like "he is literally Spider-Man why tf wouldn't he have webbing" but I concede the mechanical take is a popular one

I like this take, yeah

Organic works better imo, because it enables the "everyman hero" aspect of Peter rather than stressing "And he's secretly an absolute, utter scientific genius!"

This! I've been advocating for this for years!

Organbiz because he's a spider.... Mechanic on top of organic for better aim, flow, and even add some nice perks like making it electric or whatever. It seems so obvious, like the best of both worlds, and I don't understand why this isn't a thing. It allows Peter to be a scientific genius while still leaning into the spider powers.

Mechanical because it forces a story to remember that Peter has cartridges. Organic webs feel like a cheating way to write out something that a writer wouldn't want to deal with in a much more packed story. Like the last thing a writer would want to worry about in a fight with venom is whether or not Peter used all his webs yet
