What is your favorite scene in Lord of the Rings?

In terms of action set pieces, Battle of Helm's Deep probably takes it. That blew my mind seeing it in theaters as a kid. Aragorn's speech at the Black Gate in ROTK is great too.

This is the smaller character moment that first comes to mind:

"Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf."

"What about side by side with a friend?"

"Aye. I can do that."

Makes me tear up every time.

Even though I've seen it a milllion times, that scene still gets me. I think it's time for a rewatch soon!

I'll always love the freeing of Theoden. Stunning moment!

I just now rewatched that clip after seeing your answer and it's still just as good as the day it came out! This is one of those movies that never ages!

It's hard to choose a single scene, but since no one mentioned it yet, Théoden's speech when Rohan's army reaches Gondor. "Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death! Death! Death!"

Also, when the extended cuts were released, the scene of Faramir losing Osgiliath and retreating to the scene was SO GOOD! It makes Faramir a layered character and helps flesh out his relationship with Boromir.

To give one from each movie: Boromir's death, literally every single millisecond of Helm's Deep, Sam's "I can carry you."

And also the Ride of the Rohirrim. And lighting of the beacons. And the opening Shire scene in Fellowship is just lovely.

Oh and everything everyone else has already said and also every other scene in the trilogy tbh (with the exception of Shelob because I'd rather never think about it)

It's such a great series! You could watch it hundreds of times and still find something new. In fact, I think it's time for another rewatch. It's probably been a year or longer since I've watched them.

I did one of his speeches for a theatre class years ago. I can't remember which one, but it may have been that one. I'll have to rewatch it.

The chase scene where Arwen saves Frodo from the Nazgul.

My favorite bit from Fellowship is probably Frodo saving Sam from drowning at the end and the "I made a promise, Mr. Frodo" exchange.

The action and set pieces are legendary in these films, but the character stuff is what really makes them work.

Don’t have one but I will go back and watch it and get back to you on it

Thanks
