Are you excited for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum?

The Lord of the Rings trilogy are some of my favorite movies, I rewatch the extended editions 2-3 times per year. But I didn’t like the Hobbit movies, and I haven’t liked the Rings of Power series, so I’ve been hesitant to get excited at all about The Hunt for Gollum. Is this one you’re excited to see?

Not really... I also dislike The Hobbit and The Rings of Power, and even War of the Rohirrim was disappointing to me. It seems that even when the people behind the original trilogy get involved in other projects, they fail. So I'm not holding my breath for The Hunt of Gollum to be any different. In fact, given its cameo-focused approach, it might be even worse.

I would love to be proved wrong, though.

Echo all of this, very low expectations. I guess if I have to look for something positive it's that I think Serkis will bring it again as Gollum (one of the better parts of the first Hobbit movie), but even that I can't get too excited about because I don't think it's a super interesting story, and Serkis' track record as a director is bad.

I'm afraid that the project is pretty doomed. As others have noted, the magic in those first three movies isn't seen in The Hobbit or Rings of Power. At least this one will have som familiar faces, but even then it's not like the bar has lowered with time, it's still high thanks to Jackson's OG Trilogy.

We started the original trilogy again this weekend with the kids and it's still amazing! I love every single scene. Currently watching the first movie extended cut so it will take a few days to watch it all the way through. I didn't really care for the Hobbit movies, but I did watch them while in a camper one weekend and there was a lot of noise, so I will give them another chance. However, I'm not really excited for the Hunt for Gollum. I don't know exactly why. Maybe I just see the originals as perfect and don't want to compare them.

I don't think anything can match the magic of the first trilogy, but I do wish they would at least come close. I'm worried about them treating it as a chance to stuff it with cameos, but hopefully they get it right.

Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite film series of all time. I feel like I should be excited for Hunt for Gollum, but I'm just not. I was very disappointed with The Hobbit movies, and as much as I love Andy Serkis the actor, his track record as a director is ... not great. I just don't see how they can catch lightning in a bottle again with a recast Aragorn and a story that reads thin on paper.

Not everything needs to be like Marvel or Star Wars with spinoffs and new installments. Sometimes, it's okay to just let things end.

I feel the same. I didn't like the Hobbit movies much either, but I may try to watch the series again this summer. Nothing can come close to the originals.

I hope he comes back. I don't want to see anyone else play his role.

I don't think Viggo is coming back... he's quite protective of the books and has refused to return for The Hobbit because he felt it didn't make sense.

I keep forgetting this is even happening. I didn't care for the Hobbit movies and am fairly sure I never even finished watching the trilogy. And given how cursed the Gollum video game was... I'm probably skipping this one unless I start hearing that it's actually good.
