When Should PS6 Come Out?

The initial rumors were PS6 could come out in late 2027, but now I'm seeing that it could be delayed for a bit (rising cost of RAM playing a role).

Personally, I'd be fine if PS6 didn't release until 2030 or something. I think since it takes longer to develop games now, console generations should last longer to reflect that. I'm perfectly happy with my PS5 and am in no rush for another one.

Yeah, I am in no hurry to have to replace my PS5. With the technology evolving more slowly and longer game development timelines, it seems like the only reason to churn out a new gen that quickly is to force everyone to buy a new console that isn't significantly different.

I'm hoping it's not for a bit yet. I've been eyeing finally getting a PS5, as my only other consoles are my Switch and Wii (I can't let go of Guitar Hero and Wii Sports, lol), but I've been wanting to try out so many games that I can't play on those. I don't want to buy a PS5 only for it to immediately become outdated by a PS6, haha!

I feel like most developers still haven't even tapped into what PS5 is capable of. We're still getting PS4 games released every year! I'm more than fine with PS6 not hitting until 2030. There's still a lot of room for growth.

Yeah, I feel like we've gotten to a point with graphics where they're so advanced now I don't even know where they can go from here. Arkham Knight came out in 2015 and looks like something that could have been released last year.

I got my PS4 the first weekend of COVID. I had no idea Sony was about to announce PS5 for later that year lol. I was like "Of course"

The only reason I want a PS6 is so Jurassic World Evolution 3 can actually run properly 😂

That's an issue of bad optimization, which, unfortunately, is way too common nowadays. Developers are incentivized to use bloated game engines to cut costs (Unreal, I'm looking at you) instead of optimizing code and assets. I think a masterful example of this is Helldivers 2. The initial game size was 154 Gigas.... When they actually decided to optimize it, the game size dropped to 23 Gigas. That's massive!

Nintendo is really good at optimization, which is why they managed to run a massive game like Tears of the Kingdom in a potato system like the Switch.

Honestly, we don't need a new generation of consoles any time soon. We just need game dev companies to invest in optimization.
