What Is a Franchise or IP That You Feel Like You Should Have Gotten Into But Didn't?

Every so often I am reminded of my nerdy blind spots when people talk about shows/tv/franchises that are popular or that they are into and I just never got into for whatever reason. What are some that you "missed out" on -- and do you ever plan on finding a way to jump on board?

Oooo, great question! I'd have to say Star Trek and Doctor Who. I'm pretty confident that I'd love both of them, but for whatever reason I've just never gotten around to them. At this point, there's so much to both of them that it feels like it'd be an impossible task to catch up.

I agree with both of those. I tried Star Trek, but it didn't resonate with me. Same for Doctor Who, but honestly, I probably didn't give it a chance.

The only Star Trek I've ever really engaged with is the Kelvin Timeline. Never had much interest beyond that. My grandpa is a huge Trekkie and I'm pretty sure he showed me some of the TOS movies around the time I got into Star Wars, and it never really took.

Lord of the Rings was a defining part of my childhood, so I'm pretty sure I would enjoy Game of Thrones if I ever decided to watch it, but I never have. I've always been more of a movies person than TV. I see the number of seasons and episodes and just tap out lol.

I played a lot of tabletop knockoffs in the 1990s and 2000s, but I wish I had really formed a squad and done real official D&D campaigns. I had all the infrastructure for it (local comic shop I hung around all the time, college campus home, complete with students that played...) but it was just "my older brother's thing." Sigh.

Looking back, I can't remember really liking GOT that much either. Some of it was OK, but I didn't like it as much as most people do.

I never got into anything Game of Thrones. I worked in a bookstore for awhile and EVERYONE was super into the books (this was before the tv show) and I read the first one and thought it was trash. I think I watched maybe one actual episode of the tv show and didn't think it was any better. I just don't get why it's so popular.

I like GoT, but it was one of those shows that I was very late to get into.

Star Trek, Doctor Who, and James Bond are all very similar in that I liked/loved some of the modern releases (Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Beyond, S1-9 of modern Who, and Casino Royale/Skyfall are all good-to-great), but just never got into the older stuff (Bond), or never even really attempted to because there's so much and it seems very daunting (Trek/Who)

Bond is a good one. I'm in the same boat. I was into the Craig era for sure, but outside of that I've only watched a few Connerys and Die Another Day. There are so many Bond movies I haven't watched.

Stoked for Villeneuve's Bond movie.

Oh yeah, Denis doing it will turn me into the world's biggest Bond fan when that releases

Hey it's not too late! I missed out on D&D as a kid too and always wished I had gotten into it. I'm considering giving it another shot now that I'm older.

Lord of the Rings! I know about it through osmosis by just being friends with nerds, but I've got no idea what any of it really is

Now is a good time to give it a try! We watch it yearly and it doesn't age. It's still incredibly good.

Oh my gosh! Yes! I've also never gotten into Lord of the Rings. Theoretically, it has all of the elements of something that I'd love, but I've just never gotten into it.

Have you watched it all the way through yet? I love every second of it lol It's one of those movies that you need to watch without any distractions. I turn my phone off so I'm not tempted to scroll when I watch it.

I haven't. I've only actually ever caught bits and pieces of the movies, so I've admittedly never actually sat down and given them an honorable try. Maybe I'll make that one of my goals for 2026!
