What TV Show Do You Think Should Have Ended Long Before It Actually Did?

We usually talk about television shows ending too soon but... what about shows that simply went on too long? Can you think of any series that simply should have ended a season (or more) before the network finally pulled the plug?

There are honestly sooooo many. The biggest one for me is probably The Walking Dead. It well overstayed its welcome, which is a shame given how good it was in the first few seasons. The show getting rid of Carl was a massive misfire, and hen Andrew Lincoln leaving the show was the nail in the coffin.

I also feel like Squid Game should have ended after Season 1.

How I Met Your Mother is a big one for me. The fact that they stuck with the ending they originally planned, even after so many more seasons of growth for the characters, really soured me on the show as a whole.

Omg! Yes!!!! The ending simply doesn't make sense after everything else that happened in the show. I genuinely love How I Met Your Mother, but every time I rewatch it I'm disappointed in the ending.

I actually enjoyed The Walking Dead, but I can see how some people felt it went on longer than expected. I eventually watched all of it, but it definitely had some filler seasons. Another series could be The Office. The dynamic really changed after Michael Scott left, and while there were still some good moments, it didn’t feel the same as the earlier seasons. However, I've watched each of these a lot and enjoyed them.

Oh yes! I thought the same thing! I don't like to stop series before they're done, but this one just went on and on. The main character in a series can be given a break occasionally for making bad decisions, but this was just bad decision after bad decision.

Z Nation is another one that probably went on way too long. I enjoyed the early seasons and how different it felt from other zombie shows, but it started to get really weird towards the end. It still had fun moments, though. I honestly can't even remember if I ever finished it.

I agree with TWD even though I watched it all the way through finally. It had its moments and I think most of us just didn't want to let go.

The show personally lost me with the drawn-out Negan brutality with Glenn. I still stuck around a bit, but when Andrew Lincoln left, that was officially it for me. Love the show though

TWD definitely started having issues around Season 7, but I probably wouldn't have checked out if they hadn't killed Carl tbh, that ruined the entire point of the series for me.

Some others that went too long imo: The Handmaid's Tale, Killing Eve, Two and a Half Men

Can I throw some fire in here and say The Simpsons?

I'm also glad that The Boys is ending with season 5, because that show could very easily go down the sticking around too long path.

Very much agree on The Boys. I never watched Supernatural, but I know that's one people usually say for this question and it went WAY beyond Kripke's 5-season plan, so I'm glad he seems to have learned from that

Yes!!!! It was way over the top, and then just the entire All Out War arc was way too drawn out.

Don't even get me started on Killing Eve, lol. That show had such a strong start, but completely lost itself by Season 4. The first two seasons are some of my favorite seasons of TV, but they really dropped the ball after that.
