Movie You Had to Rewatch to Appreciate or Like

I think we all have at least one movie that didn't fully click after the first watch but did on a rewatch.

For me, the first one that comes to mind is Inglorious Basterds. I remember some of the marketing materials sold it as like some action comedy about Brad Pitt mowing down Nazis, so when I finally got a chance to watch the movie, I was surprised that the Basterds themselves were only a small part of it and was actually a little disappointed. Second time through, when I knew what I was getting into, I absolutely loved it. It's one of my favorite Tarantino films.

Quite a few. These were mostly films I liked on a first showing but really appreciated after seeing them again. But the one that comes immediately to mind is Inception.

I think it was Doctor Strange. I rewatched it ahead of Multiverse of Madness, believing that I didn't like it, but found it so much more enjoyable than the first time around. I have to assume I was sleepy the first time I saw it because man was I grumpy about it the first time.

I agree with Matt. I’ve grown to love Age of Ultron with each subsequent viewing. There also some strong connectivity there to future events that I really didn’t think about on the first watch. I would say the same thing about Captain America: The First Avenger. I grown to love it much more since the first watch years ago.

Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was fine when I first watched it, but my wife loves it, and whenever she would have it on, I would find myself watching and liking it more and more. Now I actually really dig it.

I'll third this one! Yes, it's flawed, but it has some peak moments. The farm sequence is one of the best in the MCU, and the way they treat the Hulk as a tragic monster is great! I also loved how Black Widow began to become a character in this movie (sadly, they didn't do much with that...). Oh, and the levity of the Avengers Tower party is something I miss a lot from the current MCU movies. I like watching characters interacting with each other without having to fight to save the world, that helps them become people.

This happens to me all the time! Just rewatched Sinners and it hit better than the first time because I finally heard some things I missed the first time around

Seconding Sinners. I had a difficult time getting into it on my first watch and actually only made it halfway through before stopping and later going back to it. I just did a rewatch the other day and absolutely loved it!

My Brother said Raising Arizona was the funniest movie of all time. I didn’t get it at all. One year later I watched it again because it was the only thing on and all of it, every joke, every actor’s reaction was gold. Go figure.
