May 1May 1 CB Team I finally replaced my copies of The Lord of the Rings and started reading them today. I’ve never actually read the books before, but I’m already hooked. I recently got the kids interested in Lord of the Rings, and we’ve been watching a little of the original movies every weekend, but I’ve always wanted to sit down and read the books myself.Has anyone here read the full series? And has anyone gone through The Silmarillion as well? What is everyone else reading right now?
May 2May 2 CB Team I've always wanted to jump in and read all the books, but there's always something else pulling my attention away. One day though!

One day though!I'm about 30 or so pages into it and it's great! It's cool seeing how it all started. I used to have one of those fancy editions, but it just sat on the shelf for years. It's good to finally read it.
May 4May 4 CB Team I just got into Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra (I'm like years late to the party, lol), and so I'm reading may way through all of the corresponding comics as I wait for the live-action to come back with Season 2!

May 5May 5 CB Team I live a second life as a book person when I'm not gaming, so I'm always reading something lol. Currently working on a modern Greek myth retelling called Daughter of the Hunt that's been really interesting so far.
May 5May 5 I mostly read urban fantasy and horror, and when I went to Barnes & Noble a few days ago, I learned Jim Butcher had a new novella out for the Dresden Files that I had never heard was coming. I'm reading that now. Butcher and I went to the same college and had the same advisor in the professional writing program there, so he is someone I closely follow, making this book a surprise.

Would I need to read other books in this series first or can you just start with this one?

There are people he has had relationships with in the past and it might give more depth to why he hates or trusts someone, but Butcher does a good job in making most of his books self contained. There are only four books in his series that don't stand on their own (Turn Coat leads directly into Changes, and Peace Talks and Battle Ground are a two-part story), but normally, his books can be read as one-offs.

May 6May 6 CB Team I just re-read The Testaments and am almost done with We Are Legion (We Are Bob). I just got Yesteryear so I need to start that and I have like 10 books on my TBR.
May 7May 7 CB Team Mistborn: The Hero of Ages (final book in the trilogy) and The Narrow Road Between Desires (Kingkiller Chronicle novella)

I tried when I was about 13 and obsessed with the movies, but Tolkien spending like 50 pages describing a tree was a bit much for me then, I've no doubt I'd love them now. Tonally very different but did really enjoy The Hobbit (book, not movies!).

I'm really taking my time with it and just reading a little at a time. I'm obsessed with the movies as well!

You'll have to tell me how you like it!
