What Games Have You Given Up on Ever Finishing?

Featured Replies

Now that we're at the end of the year and releases have slowed down, I am making my way through some games that I have missed or didn't have time for previously. I am starting to realize my backlog is a bit too unwieldy and I will have to retire them from my backlog. There is just too much to play, and I have come to terms with the fact that I will probably never find the time to finish Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Baldur's Gate 3, even if I really want to.

What games have you shed from your backlog?

I am very bad at actually admitting defeat, but I think I'm probably never going to finish Dragon Age: The Veilguard at this point. I didn't hate it, but I didn't get time to finish it and 2026 is already looking way too stacked for me to make time for it. I'm also not sure I'll ever get through Act 3 in Baldur's Gate 3 either. I find the city overwhelming after all the roaming in the first 2 acts and keep starting new games, instead.

I have tried to get into Skyrim at least half a dozen times. All these years later, I know that I'm never going to be able to finish it.

The Witcher 3.

Medieval fantasy is hardly my favorite genre, so The Witcher was already a tough sell for me, but I wanted to give it a shot because of how acclaimed it is. The main hurdle for me is the length. That game is MASSIVE, especially when you factor in the expansions. I'm not against open world games. Some of my favorite games are open world. But at the pace I play games, The Witcher 3 would take me months to get through, and that's just not appealing to me. I don't mind if something takes about a month or so to complete, but 2-3 months is pushing it. There's so much else out there to play, and I like to play a variety of games. I'd rather split 2-3 months up between three or four games as opposed to just playing one. I know I would be like "I'm so ready for this to be over so I can play something else."

I was 14 when The Witcher 3 came out and I blazed through it. If it came out today, hard telling if I'd get to the end despite my love of it lmao

I tried to pick up Fallout 4 but I give up. The game is broken and even worse now after the anniversary version. I was hoping to finish it since it does interest me and I really enjoyed New Vegas but I think it early impossible to play now. I don't think the game is bad but it was extremely buggy when I first picked it up and the update made it worse for me and it's saddens me because I really wanted to play another Fallout game.

Wicther 3 is also mine. I put probably 40-50 hours into it when it first came out but got absorbed in all of the side content. Barely put a dent into the main story. Tried to go back to it a few times but just never could get back into it. I've accepted I'll never play it again even though I loved it.

I never finished Zelda Tears of the Kingdom either, I wanna try to finish SpongeBob Titan of the Tide in the next couple months.

I really enjoyed Titan of the Tide! It does a nice job of mixing things up just when you're getting used to the platforming to keep things interesting.

Final Fantasy 16! I really wanted to like it, but just don't really have the desire anymore to invest more time like I've done with some of the FFs I've liked more. Have tried on and off to go for it, but finally gave up haha
