Marvel just messed up

Reports about the new Disney layoffs are circulating, including that Marvel has completely cut their team of Visual Development artists who were responsible for the concept art in the early stages of projects, names like Andy Park or Ryan Meinerding that deeply nerdy MCU fans know well. The catch is they're going to hire people on a "per project basis," which is corporate scumbag talk for "we dont want to pay benefits."

It's just crazy that when Marvel is at their most vulnerable, they cut the piece of production that has proven to be so vital.

With DC taking over Marvel on comics, and DC Studios managing a healthier production pipeline (that values creators), it was the worst time possible for Disney to do this... There's only so much good faith you can burn before things implode.

Let's be blunt for a moment: when has Marvel ever actually made good decisions when they're vulnerable?

This is such a good point. I'm a big James Gunn fan, so I'm biased, but I am much more excited about what DC is doing than Marvel these days. I can't wait to see Clayface just because it sounds so different from other comic book adaptations

I saw Wes Burt’s post that he got fired in a marvel conference room that had his art as a mural on the wall 💀💀😔

Incredibly bleak

But if I were to write that in a fictional story, people would tell me the message is too much on the nose...

It's wild that this is happening as they're almost certainly prepping for the post-Secret Wars era. Artists like this will be vital to making that work

You already know they're going to AI slop that project to hell.

I know it’s all about the money ! All about the Benjamins !but what about the FANS?!

We are the ones who support them ?!

I get it it’s a business, but if you have good writers ect that are creating content that the Fans like why wouldn’t you let them continue?! And actually pay more for their success?! Share the wealth a little?!

Unless they are at the top of their useful need ?! Does that even happen ?! Aren’t the Fans always there in essence?! Waiting for the next installment?! Chomping at the bit ?!
