Does Your Choice of Movie Snack Change Based on What You're Seeing?

Here's something that unexpectedly came up tonight when a friend told me that what they get at the movies changes based on what they are seeing. For example, they will get nachos if they're watching a comedy or an animated movie (apparently with extra jalapenos when they saw Zootopia 2) but will ONLY get popcorn when it's a superhero movie or major blockbuster. Meanwhile, I almost always get the exact same thing: popcorn, extra butter, Diet Coke.

Since it never occurred to me that people tailor their snacks to their movie experience, I had to ask the forum: do YOU change your snacks based on the movie you are seeing?

That's a really interesting idea! I don't go to the movies very often anymore, so I'm always eager to enjoy some movie theater popcorn when I go. Also an extra butter, Diet Coke person - plus some extra salt. Never thought about changing my snacks to suit the theme.

This is wild behavior. lol.

I always get buttered popcorn and a Coke. If someone in my group has candy, I’ll eat it.

I will say: once in a while I don’t get anything but I always get something for big action movies. But the actual order doesn’t vary.

Every so often I will also just not get anything -- and I do sometimes mix up the drink (especially if the kid is with me because he always has to take his tax) but yeah, the curated snack choosing was wild to me.

I never get anything at the theater. I usually eat dinner right before going and then I'm not really hungry

This is the smart, economical choice and I respect it.

A friend's mom that I was particularly close with would sometimes go to the movies with me and the woman would bring in an entire meal in her bag. Like, woman legit would have a tub of potato salad and a tupperware of hotdogs (this was before dine-in AMCs). I respected that, too.

Not at all! It's always a large popcorn with extra butter (my body hates me for this, lol) and a Dr. Pepper. It's been my go-to movie theater concessions order since I was a kid. The thought of ordering something else almost feels sacrilegious at this point.

I see the movies as my chance to be bad and eat candy, so I always go for Buncha Crunch and a soda. I also don't really see the appeal of eating a full movie at the theater, since the food isn't really all that good (unless you're at an Alamo Drafthouse).

Sometimes I will get a flatbread pepperoni pizza or french fries, but 90% of the time, big bucket of popcorn and a soda! It's a matter of appetite, not the film I am seeing!

Honestly shocked you get anything other than tendies.

Everything is so expensive nowadays I usually just get water... unless there's wine available. So, no.
