What Was The First Superhero Game You Ever Played?

Wolverine got me thinking about some of the games I played when I first started gaming, and the one that comes to mind as the first superhero game for me is the X-Men Arcade Game. I used to head into my local arcade and go through a ton of quarters trying to beat that game, and it's been a favorite ever since.

What was your first superhero game, and what did you think?

Oh gosh, I'm not sure I know which game was actually my first one. But the first superhero game I remember loving was Spider-Man 2 on PS2. The little side hero missions like saving the kid's balloon and delivering pizzas were classic, and webslinging through New York was just too good.

Spider-Man & X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge.

The most impossible game ever made.

Also: X-Men the arcade game, of course. The most fun co-op player game ever made.

Definitely the movie tie-in game for Spider-Man (2002). I really loved that game, but my mind was blown when Spider-Man 2 came out a couple of years later. I played that game religiously as a kid.

Also throwing a shoutout to The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction as well, as that would have likely been my first non-Spidey game. That game was unbelievable. I would pick up civilians and run up to a rooftop and launch them to kingdom come. Not a very nice thing to do, but I loved that they empowered Hulk to be a total menace that was a destructive force lol

I was going to say Arkham Asylum, but then I remembered I had that crappy Hulk game on the PS2 based on the Ang Lee movie because my mom wasn't sure what to give me for my birthday. I don't remember too much about it other than it being a six-pack of ass so I didn't end up finishing it, which is not something I normally do even now.

Arkham Asylum was the first one I actually finished and got attached to. What a spectacular game.

Mine would have to be the Spider-Man game Neversoft made for PS1. It was awesome. Loved the Stan Lee intros to each level. I didn't really read comics growing up, so that game was basically Spider-Man 101 for me and I learned a lot about the lore and all the characters.

The first X-men legends game and the insomniac spiderman video games, spiderman 2 on PS2, and fantastic 4 on PS2. I remember very fondly playing X-men legends when I had a PS2.

I vaguely remember an SNES game called Spider Man Maximum Carnage, but one i remember well is Marvel vs Capcom 2 at the arcade

Wow had not thought of Marvel vs. Capcom in years!! What about Xmen vs. Streetfighter?

Marvel Ultimate Alliance changed my life! The opening cinematic is still something I revisit every now and again.

Still one of my all time fave superhero games. So freaking fun

That game was ridiculously difficult. I had the genesis version and remember being stumped at like the second character forever.

With how fun that Hulk game was, still hard to believe we never got a sequel to it. Feels like a slam dunk!

The first X-Men Legends (and its sequel) are two of the best superhero games of all time for me, and I would completely go back and replay them if they got a remaster

I'm old school so it was likely one of the NES Marvel or DC games such as Batman or the old Wolverine game. I used to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance with my wife and then my son when he got old enough and we loved it! I wish they would do a proper follow up to that game.

Yep! I could never beat any of their 2nd levels! But the music was awesome!

I spent a lot of quarters on this one back in the day! I'm glad they have arcades now where you can pay a fee and play unlimited and finally beat some of these older games.

I'm also a big fan of the older era superhero games, including the Sunsoft Superman game that kind of ruled haha.

Ultimate Alliance is still so dang fun. I don't have a Switch so I didn't get to jump into the third one, but would love a new multiplatform Ultimate Alliance.

My daughter and I beat the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game in like an hour and a half or something, thanks to no quarters and additional lives haha. It still holds up!

Same! My son still talks about the days we used to play Ultimate Alliance and I hope they make a new one that doesn't have micro transactions and features an extended roster.
