Movies You Rewatch Every Holiday Season

It's December, which means in a few weeks I'll be getting ready for my annual viewing of Die Hard on Christmas Eve. Been my tradition for years.

What are some movies you rewatch every holiday season?

I'm in the middle of Die Hard rn
Home Alone 1 & 2
Christmas Vacation
On Deck

Unexpected new addition? Red One! The kids request it, and the bars have been playing it. The Rock does it again!

The Santa Clause 2 is a must at Christmastime. It's very heartwarming and has a lot of great humor, such as the eleves fighting back against Evil Santa.

There are several I revisit just about every year but the only one that is actual clockwork for me is Home Alone. It's always been one of my all-time favorite movies but my first kid was born on Dec 1 and our first night in the hospital we turned on the TV and it was playing for the start of Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas. Kinda felt like our first family movie night so my wife and I go back and watch it every year on the little guy's birthday.

Not willingly, but every year sometime between Thanksgiving and New Year I am subjected to the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, the extended versions.

You say this like it's a bad thing

Jingle All the Way! It's my favorite Christmas movie to watch every year, and it's actually my test for what actually qualifies as a Christmas movie. There's a line where he says "Where's your Christmas spirit?" and I always think about that when watching other ones haha

Alright, well, I have a list of movies I get to every Christmas, and this year I'm determined to watch them all again.

  1. White Christmas (my all-time fave movie)

  2. Elf (the movie that makes me laugh no matter how many times I've watched it, and now Ember loves it too.)

  3. Charlie Brown Christmas (a yearly treasure, actually already watched this one this year)

  4. While You Were Sleeping (one of my fave rom coms, and it takes place during Christmas, you can't beat it)

  5. The Grinch 2018 (This is actually our favorite Grinch movie of all the releases, and the family adores it. I feel like it mixes in the best parts of the other movies, and I love the animation).

  6. The Family Stone (I feel like this one captures the family dynamics during the holidays brilliantly, and it's just great)

  7. The Holiday (You put this on, and it simply feels like Christmas; also, the soundtrack is wonderful)

  8. New Addition! Candy Cane Lane (Was not prepared to love it, but it was delightful!

  9. Miracle on 34th Street (one of my wife's favorite movies and a Christmas classic)

  10. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (all of the classic animated films get a rewatch, but Rudolph has one of the all-time great characters in Yukon, so it gets top-tier status)

My brother does usually make us at least have Home Alone playing in the background once a season

My family is obsessed with Elf, so we tend to watch it every year. But now that I'm married, we alternate which family we spend the holiday with, and Elf has become an every other year tradition. It's honestly nice that way because then I look forward to it more.

I'm British so Love Actually and The Holiday are top of the list. We've also recently added Spirited (stupid fun with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell) and Violent Night to our annual viewing.
